Custom pavilion with stone columns and outdoor living area in Delaware

Pavilions & Pergolas in Delaware | Custom Outdoor Structures

Year-round outdoor living starts with the right structure. Custom pavilions and pergolas designed and built to extend your living space beyond four walls.

Shade, Shelter, and Style for Every Season

A pavilion or pergola is the anchor of a great outdoor living space. It provides shade on scorching summer afternoons, shelter from unexpected rain, and a defined gathering area that ties your patio, kitchen, and pool together into a cohesive design. At Evergreen Hardscaping, we design and build custom pavilions and pergolas in wood, vinyl, and aluminum, tailored to the architecture of your home and the way you actually use your outdoor space.

Since 1996 we have been constructing outdoor structures across Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland for homeowners who want more than a basic kit-built canopy. Every structure we build is engineered for the mid-Atlantic climate, anchored to proper footings, and detailed with the finishes, hardware, and accessories that make it a permanent extension of your home rather than a temporary addition.

Pavilion & Pergola Types We Build

Freestanding or attached, minimal or fully loaded, every structure is custom-designed for your property.

Pavilions

A pavilion is a fully roofed outdoor structure supported by columns, posts, or walls. Unlike a pergola, it provides complete overhead coverage from sun and rain, making it the ideal choice for outdoor kitchens, dining areas, lounges, and entertainment spaces where you want all-weather protection. Our pavilions feature architectural-grade shingle, standing seam metal, or cedar shake roofing, supported by pressure-treated lumber, cedar, or aluminum framing. We design roof pitches that complement the slope and style of your home's existing roofline so the pavilion reads as a natural extension rather than an afterthought.

Pavilion sizes typically range from 12 by 14 feet for a modest dining area to 20 by 30 feet or larger for full outdoor kitchens with bar seating, lounge furniture, and integrated entertainment systems. Columns can be finished in natural stone veneer, stucco, or painted wood to match your home's exterior. Ceiling options include tongue-and-groove cedar, beadboard, or exposed rafters with a finished underside. Every pavilion includes electrical rough-in for lighting, ceiling fans, outlets, and audio/video if desired.

Pergolas

A pergola is an open-roof structure defined by columns and a series of cross-beams and rafters. It provides filtered shade rather than full coverage, creating a dappled light effect that works beautifully over patios, walkways, spa surrounds, and garden seating areas. Pergolas define a space without enclosing it, which makes them a strong choice when you want architectural interest and partial sun protection without blocking breezes or sightlines to the surrounding landscape.

We build pergolas in western red cedar, pressure-treated pine, vinyl (PVC), and extruded aluminum. Cedar pergolas age to a natural silver-gray patina or can be stained in any tone. Vinyl pergolas are maintenance-free and never need painting. Aluminum pergolas offer the thinnest profiles and longest spans without sag, and many aluminum systems include integrated motorized louvers that open and close to control sunlight and rain with the push of a button. We recommend motorized louvered pergolas for homeowners who want the open feel of a pergola with the option of full coverage on demand.

Attached vs. Freestanding

An attached structure ties directly into the fascia, ledger board, or wall of your home, creating a seamless transition from indoor to outdoor living. This approach works well when the structure is positioned adjacent to a rear exit such as a sliding door or french doors. A freestanding structure stands independently on its own footings at any location in your yard, making it ideal for poolside kitchens, garden retreats, or any application where the structure is not adjacent to the house. We build both configurations and help you decide which approach best suits your property layout, traffic flow, and design goals during the initial consultation.

Optional Upgrades & Accessories

Every pavilion and pergola we build can be outfitted with a range of upgrades that increase comfort and usability. Recessed LED lighting and ceiling fans are the most common additions. Retractable curtain panels on tracks provide privacy and wind screening on demand. Motorized screen systems keep insects out while preserving the view. Infrared heaters extend the usability of your structure into fall and early spring. Built-in audio systems, weatherproof televisions, and outlets along the column bases ensure your outdoor room functions as well as any indoor space. We coordinate all wiring and infrastructure during the framing phase so nothing is surface-mounted or exposed after the fact.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Material selection drives the look, maintenance requirements, and longevity of your structure. Cedar delivers a warm, natural grain with excellent rot resistance and can be left natural or stained. Pressure-treated lumber offers the lowest initial cost with solid structural performance when properly sealed. Vinyl is the maintenance-free option and comes in white, tan, and gray profiles that resist fading, cracking, and insect damage. Aluminum provides the greatest structural strength per pound, enabling longer spans with thinner members, and is available in powder-coated finishes that match virtually any color palette.

Regardless of material, every structure we build sits on concrete footings that extend below the frost line. Posts are anchored with galvanized post bases, all hardware is stainless steel or hot-dipped galvanized, and connections are engineered to meet or exceed local building codes. We pull permits, schedule inspections, and deliver a finished structure that is safe, permitted, and built to last decades.

Integration with Hardscaping & Outdoor Living

A pavilion or pergola does not exist in isolation. It anchors a larger outdoor living environment that typically includes a patio, outdoor kitchen, fire feature, pool, or combination of these elements. Because Evergreen builds all of these components in-house, we coordinate the structure design with the hardscape layout, kitchen dimensions, fire feature placement, and landscape plan from the start. Footing locations are set before patio pavers go down. Electrical conduit is run before stone columns are faced. Gas lines for heaters or grills are stubbed during framing. This integrated approach eliminates change orders, reduces construction time, and produces a finished space where every element looks and functions like it was planned together from day one.
