An outdoor fire feature extends your living season by months and transforms your backyard into a year-round gathering space. At Evergreen Hardscaping, we design and build custom fireplaces, fire pits, fire tables, and fire bowls across Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland. Every fire feature we construct is built with the same attention to craftsmanship and structural integrity that has earned us three EP Henry Contractor of the Year awards.

Outdoor Fire Features That Define Your Space

Nothing draws people together quite like fire. An outdoor fireplace anchors a patio the way a hearth anchors a living room -- it becomes the focal point around which everything else is arranged. A fire pit creates a more informal, social setting where guests can gather in a circle and enjoy the warmth. Fire tables and fire bowls add accent-level flame to dining areas, poolsides, and garden paths without the footprint of a full structure.

At Evergreen Hardscaping, we have been building fire features in the tri-state area since 1996. Our team understands the nuances of fuel type, venting, clearance codes, and material selection that separate a safe, long-lasting fire feature from one that underperforms or creates safety hazards. Whether you envision a grand stone fireplace with a chimney or a simple circular fire pit surrounded by built-in seating, we handle the entire project from design through final gas line connection.

Every fire feature we build begins with a reinforced concrete footing designed for the weight of the structure and the thermal stresses of repeated heating and cooling cycles. We use fire-rated firebrick for combustion chambers, stainless-steel burner systems for gas installations, and proper ventilation for wood-burning designs. The result is a fire feature that performs flawlessly for decades.

Fire Feature Types We Build

Outdoor Fireplaces

An outdoor fireplace is the most architectural of all fire features. It includes a firebox, chimney, and mantel -- creating a dramatic vertical element that serves as the centerpiece of a patio or outdoor living room. We build outdoor fireplaces using natural stone, brick, manufactured stone veneer, and stucco. Gas fireplace inserts provide push-button convenience, while wood-burning designs offer the crackling ambiance and aroma that many homeowners prefer. Our fireplaces include proper chimney caps, spark arrestors, and code-compliant clearances to adjacent structures.

Fire Pits

Fire pits are the most popular fire feature in Delaware. They create a 360-degree seating experience and work beautifully as the center of a patio or as a standalone feature in the yard. We build fire pits in round, square, and rectangular configurations using matching pavers, natural stone, or custom masonry. Gas fire pits use stainless-steel burner rings or linear burners concealed beneath fire glass, lava rock, or ceramic logs. Wood-burning fire pits include heavy-gauge steel inserts and proper drainage to prevent water accumulation.

Fire Tables

Fire tables combine the warmth of a fire pit with the functionality of a dining or cocktail table. They run on natural gas or propane and produce a controlled, clean flame that does not produce smoke or sparks. We build custom fire tables using granite, concrete, or natural stone tops with integrated burner trays. Fire tables are ideal for outdoor kitchens, pool decks, and smaller patios where a full fire pit would overwhelm the space.

Fire Bowls

Fire bowls are decorative accent features that add a touch of flame to columns, walls, water features, and entryways. Typically gas-fueled, they provide ambient light and warmth without requiring a full seating area. We install fire bowls in copper, concrete, ceramic, and natural stone. They pair beautifully with water features -- the contrast of fire and water creates a striking visual effect, especially at night.

Gas vs. Wood Burning

Both fuel types have distinct advantages. Gas fire features offer instant ignition, adjustable flame height, no smoke, no ash cleanup, and consistent heat output. They require a gas line connection (natural gas or propane tank), which we coordinate with licensed plumbers. Wood-burning fire features deliver the traditional campfire experience -- the crackle, the aroma, the dancing flames -- but require regular cleaning and produce smoke that may be a concern in dense neighborhoods.

Many of our clients choose gas for convenience and clean operation, but we build both types with equal care. We can also construct dual-fuel features that accept both gas burner inserts and traditional wood fires, giving you the best of both worlds.
